Budget 2025 announcements: Make India a global hub for toys

The Finance Minister in her budget speech announced the program to make India a global hub for toys under the Made in India brand.

The Indian toy industry has seen remarkable growth in recent years, driven by a combination of rising disposable incomes, urbanization, and a shift towards more educational and skill-building toys. With a population of over 1.4 billion, India presents a massive market for both domestic and international toy manufacturers. The government's focus on initiatives like "Make in India" and the introduction of the Toy Industry Development Scheme has further propelled the sector's growth. India is increasingly becoming a global hub for toy manufacturing, with several international brands setting up production units in the country to tap into the growing demand.

The sector is also benefiting from technological advancements, with a rising demand for digital and interactive toys that blend entertainment with learning. Despite the potential, the Indian toy industry faces challenges, including the need for higher quality standards and safety regulations. The industry is also highly competitive, with both global players and homegrown brands vying for market share. Traditional toys, such as wooden toys and indigenous games, continue to hold cultural significance, adding a unique touch to the Indian toy market. Additionally, India's toy exports are on the rise, with the country becoming a key exporter of toys to various regions. The growing awareness of sustainable and eco-friendly products has also given rise to a new segment within the market, offering environmentally conscious toys.
