The highest amount of donation has been recorded at IIT Bombay by Nandan Nilekani, Infosys co-founder and IIT Bombay’s alumnus. He donated Rs. 315 Crore to his alma mater institute. He signed the memorandum with director professor of IIT Bombay, Subhasis Chaudhuri, in Bengaluru on 20 June.
This donation was given by him keeping the following things in mind: best infrastructure, encouraging research in the engineering and technology field, to develop the startup ecosystem at IIT etc.
He joined IIT Bombay in 1973 as an electrical engineering student. Even after leaving the institute after graduation, he was in close contact with IIT Bombay. He served as a member of the IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation Board for almost 10 years from 1999. Later, he was on the governor's board of the foundation from 2005 to 2011.
Earlier this year, Nandan Nilekani donated Rs. 85 crore to IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay expressed gratitude to him for such a historic donation of Rs. 400 crore. This amount will definitely enhance the level of IIT Bombay.
While Nandan Nilekani expressed his satisfaction, saying this is not just an academic place for him, but more than that. IIT Bombay has given him so much and shaped his initial days of career. This institute made his base so strong that he has built his career’s building with success. He celebrated his 50 years of association with IIT Bombay by donating an amount to the institution.
