Munawar Faruqui kill plan foiled as Goldy Brar gang members held in Delhi

Stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 2024 winner Munawar Faruqui recently survived what could have been a chilling assassination attempt, after Delhi Police busted a deadly plot orchestrated by gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar. According to reports, the gang had allegedly marked him for elimination over his controversial jokes on Hindu deities.

The shocking development came to light on Thursday when two hired shooters linked to the Rohit Godara–Goldy Brar–Virender Charan gang were intercepted by Delhi Police’s Counter Intelligence Unit. The dramatic arrest took place following a gunfight on Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road, preventing what authorities believe could have been a high-profile targeted killing.

Shooters Revealed They Were Acting on Orders from Abroad

As per a report by NDTV, during interrogation, the arrested shooters—Rahul (29) from Panipat and Sahil (37) from Bhiwani, Haryana—confessed that they had come to Delhi specifically to target Munawar Faruqui. They claimed they were following direct instructions from gangster Rohit Godara, who is currently abroad and closely associated with Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar and absconding criminal Virender Charan.

Police sources revealed that this was not the gang’s first attempt. Rahul and Sahil had previously conducted surveillance, or “recces,” of Faruqui’s movements in Mumbai and Bengaluru. In fact, they had allegedly attempted an attack in Bengaluru but failed after the comedian unexpectedly switched cars, escaping the planned strike.

Delhi Police Laid a “Professional Trap”

According to PTI, the arrests were the result of a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation. The Counter Intelligence Unit received specific inputs regarding the movement of the shooters in the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj area of Delhi.

A police officer involved in the operation said: “A professional trap was laid after intelligence indicated the movement of the two shooters in the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj area. Considering the strong apprehension that they were armed and aggressive, our team moved in to apprehend them. In the exchange of fire, both were injured but overpowered.”

The confrontation turned into a gunfight after the suspects opened fire on the police team. Both shooters were eventually shot in the legs, subdued, and later admitted to a hospital for treatment. Police seized the motorcycle they were riding and the firearms they carried.

A Plot Fueled by Global Gang Syndicates

Investigators believe the orders to kill Faruqui originated from abroad. Rohit Godara, known to operate internationally, has been a close aide of Goldy Brar, who is infamous for his involvement in several high-profile killings in India, including connections to the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Police confirmed that the shooters had been instructed to carry out targeted killings not just in Delhi-NCR but across different cities. Their reconnaissance of Faruqui in Mumbai and Bengaluru was part of a larger plan to establish control and fear in what police describe as “celebrity spaces.”

Expanding Influence in Celebrity Circles

One senior police officer explained that this syndicate has been working aggressively to spread its influence into India’s entertainment and celebrity world.

He said: “The syndicate has been attempting to expand its influence in celebrity spaces, and Faruqui was among its long-standing targets. The gang had earlier plotted attacks on other celebrities, including the recent firing incident outside actress Disha Patani’s Bareilly residence.”

This statement underscores the gang’s ongoing strategy to intimidate and possibly extort high-profile figures, using targeted killings as a tool to establish dominance.

Background of the Shooters: Rahul and Sahil

The shooters intercepted by Delhi Police were not first-time offenders. Their criminal backgrounds reveal a disturbing history.

  • Rahul (29, Panipat): He is wanted in connection with a triple murder case in Yamunanagar, Haryana, dating back to December 2024. Investigators suggest he was one of the unidentified assailants in that case. Earlier this year, he was also arrested in Bikaner, Rajasthan, under the Arms Act, where he had allegedly been sent for a similar contract killing.

  • Sahil (37, Bhiwani): He has multiple financial misconduct cases pending in courts in Bhiwani and Sirsa.

Sources said the two were originally tasked with targeting a social media influencer in Mumbai and Bengaluru. However, due to miscommunication with their handlers abroad, that plan failed. They were then redirected to Delhi to execute the mission against Faruqui.

How Bengaluru Attack Failed

Reports further state that Rahul and Sahil had carefully tracked Munawar Faruqui in Bengaluru. They allegedly waited outside one of his event venues, preparing to attack. However, their plan collapsed when the comedian unexpectedly left the venue in a different car than planned.

This twist saved Faruqui’s life at the time, but police now believe it only delayed the gang’s intentions until Delhi Police’s timely intervention.

Police Seizures and Ongoing Investigation

Following their arrest, Delhi Police seized the suspects’ motorcycle and the firearms they carried. Both criminals are under hospital care due to leg injuries sustained in the encounter.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to unravel the broader network of this international gang. Police are also trying to identify other syndicate members and additional celebrity or influencer targets who may have been on the gang’s hit list.

Munawar Faruqui’s Troubled Past with Controversies

Munawar Faruqui, 33, has been no stranger to controversy throughout his career. Known for his sharp stand-up comedy, he has often faced backlash for his jokes about Hindu gods and religious themes.

  • In 2021, he was arrested in Madhya Pradesh after a complaint alleged that his comedy routine insulted Hindu deities.

  • In 2023, he was detained by Mumbai Police during a raid on an illegal hookah bar. He was later released on bail.

  • Despite these legal troubles, Faruqui’s career soared when he entered the reality show Bigg Boss. In 2024, he emerged as the winner, gaining massive popularity.

Today, he enjoys a fan following of over 14.2 million followers on Instagram, making him one of the most prominent names in India’s stand-up comedy scene.

However, his fame and controversies may also have made him a prime target for gangs seeking to exploit celebrity culture.

Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara: The Masterminds

The names Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara have become notorious in India’s criminal landscape.

  • Goldy Brar, based in Canada, is a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and is wanted in several cases, including extortion, contract killings, and international syndicate operations.

  • Rohit Godara, operating from abroad, is considered a key link between local shooters in India and international handlers.

  • Virender Charan, another absconding gangster, is also believed to be working with them to mobilize men for targeted killings.

Together, they form a network that stretches beyond Indian borders, making law enforcement’s job far more challenging.

What’s Next in the Investigation?

Police are now focusing on tracing other gang members in the Delhi-NCR region and investigating whether other high-profile individuals were on the syndicate’s hit list. Authorities also suspect that Faruqui might not have been the only celebrity under threat.

With recent incidents like the firing outside actress Disha Patani’s residence and multiple extortion calls to Bollywood stars being reported, this case highlights a worrying trend of gangsters targeting India’s entertainment industry to gain notoriety and exert control.

Final Thoughts

The foiled assassination plot against Munawar Faruqui underscores the increasing vulnerability of high-profile celebrities to organized crime syndicates. Thanks to the swift action by Delhi Police’s Counter Intelligence Unit, a potential tragedy was averted.

While Faruqui has had his share of controversies, the attempt on his life represents a disturbing escalation in how global gangs like those led by Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara are trying to expand their influence into India’s celebrity and entertainment spaces.

As investigations continue, the spotlight remains not only on Munawar Faruqui’s safety but also on the urgent need for stronger security frameworks to protect artists, influencers, and public figures from becoming pawns in these gang wars.
