“A mother’s instinct is often the most powerful business plan.”
In a world full of flashy labels and misleading packaging, one mother’s quest for clean, nutritious food for her children led to the birth of a revolutionary Indian kids’ food brand. From the heart of Vadodara, Gujarat, Nira Shah turned a personal struggle into a purpose-driven business—Little Fingers, a homegrown, mom-made brand dedicated to nourishing childhood with 100% natural, wholesome food.
An exclusive interview with Nira Shah, Founder of Little Fingers, conducted by Vygr Media
In this exclusive interview with Vygr Media, we dive into the story behind Little Fingers, its vision, values, and the inspiring journey of its founder, Nira Shah—an engineer turned food entrepreneur, a mother of twins, and a changemaker in India’s child nutrition space.
Introduction
1. Vygr: Please tell us about yourself.
Nira Shah: My name is Nira Shah. I'm an electronics engineer by education and a mother to twin daughters—who were really the inspiration behind my entrepreneurial journey. I like to think of Little Fingers as my third child. My transition from working with TCS to starting a kids' nutrition brand began during the COVID lockdown, when I found myself deeply concerned about the lack of healthy snacking options for my children. I started researching, experimenting with traditional Indian ingredients, and gradually laid the foundation for what would become Little Fingers.
At a Glance: The Brand Basics
2. Vygr: Could you please give us your brand name?
Nira Shah: The brand is called Little Fingers.
3. Vygr: Is there a tagline for your brand?
Nira Shah: Yes, our tagline is "Nourishing Childhood with Wholesome Nutrition." It truly captures our mission and essence.
4. Vygr: Who are the founders of the brand? Is it just you, or are there more people involved?
Nira Shah: I started Little Fingers entirely on my own from my home kitchen. Over time, as the brand grew, I brought my husband onboard, and he’s now officially a co-founder. But creatively and operationally, I continue to steer the brand’s vision and product development.
5. Do you have anyone as a brand ambassador yet?
Nira Shah: Not officially. But I’d say that every child who eats our food is our brand ambassador. Their smiles, their excitement, and their well-being are what truly represent us.
6. Vygr: Where is your business currently located?
Nira Shah: We're based in Vadodara, Gujarat, but our presence is pan-India thanks to e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and other health-focused websites. We’re also exploring global markets and plan to begin exports soon.
From Inception to Impact: The Little Fingers Journey
7. Is there a brand history you'd like to tell us about?
Nira Shah: Absolutely. Little Fingers was born out of necessity, not strategy. During a family vacation, I realized how hard it was to find genuinely healthy packaged food for kids. Every snack had refined sugar, preservatives, or palm oil—even those marketed as “natural.” I started experimenting with millets, jaggery, sattu, whole wheat, and nuts—ingredients our grandmothers swore by. After many trials, I created clean-label, tasty snacks that my daughters loved. That’s when I realized: every mother faces this challenge, and that’s how Little Fingers became a brand with purpose.
Brand Ethos, Culture & Personality
8. What is the purpose of your brand?
Nira Shah: Our purpose is to offer parents a brand they can trust with their eyes closed—a brand that promises clean, wholesome, and transparent nutrition. We are 100% natural, with no added sugar, salt, preservatives, or artificial flavors. Beyond products, we’re also building a community focused on nutritional awareness, particularly in addressing childhood obesity and lifestyle-related disorders through education.
9. What are the values of your brand if you would like to specify?
Nira Shah: Our values are grounded in purity, transparency, and tradition. We never compromise on ingredient integrity. We embrace Indian superfoods like millets and jaggery, and we’re proud to be a 100% women-led organization. Most importantly, we strive to earn the trust of parents by providing honest, safe, and nutritious food options.
10. Is there a culture that you would like to create within your brand?
Nira Shah: Definitely. I want to build a culture that promotes 100% clean-label packaged foods as the norm, not the exception. And I want to raise nutritionally literate children—kids who can read ingredient labels and understand what’s healthy. This culture of awareness starts with the parents and grows with the child.
11. What are your brand attributes? Like, is it cool or serious? Or to the point?
Nira Shah: I’d say we’re playfully healthy. Our brand is rooted in purpose and tradition, but it also resonates with millennial parents who want quick, smart, and tasty solutions. Our identity is a beautiful blend of authenticity, fun, and trustworthiness.
Mission, Vision, and Positioning
12. What is your mission for your brand?
Nira Shah: Our mission is to nurture healthy eating habits from the very first bite. Whether it’s a newborn, toddler, or a new mom, we want to be the go-to choice for clean, tasty, and nutritious food that supports their overall well-being.
13. What was the vision behind introducing your brand?
Nira Shah: My vision is twofold. I want Little Fingers to be the Tata of trust in the baby food industry and the Nestlé of innovation—but all while staying rooted in Indian ingredients and values. I envision Little Fingers as a globally recognized, made-in-India brand that redefines childhood nutrition.
14. What is your positioning of your brand?
Nira Shah: We position ourselves through community-driven growth and innovation. Word of mouth has been our biggest strength—we turn happy customers into brand advocates. We constantly refine our product line, introduce new recipes, and work closely with moms, pediatricians, and even local farmers to ensure our impact is widespread and sustainable.
15. Vygr: What is your brand persona? Like if your brand were a person, who would it be?
Nira Shah: Our brand persona is every mother. She’s intuitive, nurturing, practical, and always looking out for what’s best for her child. She believes in tradition but also embraces innovation—that’s exactly what Little Fingers is.
Services and Specializations
16. What does your brand do?
Nira Shah: At Little Fingers, we’re challenging the stereotypes of the packaged food industry. Our mission is to promote healthy snacking habits and empower both parents and children through education and access to cleaner alternatives. We also engage in nutritional outreach programs in schools, run workshops for parents, and create employment opportunities for women by training them and involving them in our ecosystem.
17. Vygr: What services do you provide?
Nira Shah: We cater to different age groups—babies (from 8 months), toddlers, kids, and now even expecting and new mothers. Our offerings include Branlac instant cereals, porridge mixes, laddoo premixes, cookies, pancakes, milk mixes, gluten-free snacks, and more. We also offer nutritional consultation, workshops, and awareness campaigns to empower families.
Who They Serve
18. Vygr: Who are your target audiences?
Nira Shah: Our primary target is every parent, especially those who want to make better nutritional choices but are time-strapped. We bridge that gap with food that’s clean, quick, and guilt-free—designed for busy families who care deeply about their children’s health.
Final Thoughts
From a mother’s kitchen to a pan-India phenomenon, Little Fingers has become a symbol of trust, purity, and empowerment. It’s more than a food brand—it’s a movement for nutritional reform, rooted in love, led by women, and driven by purpose.
As Nira Shah continues her journey, she hopes to put India on the map of global child nutrition—not just as a competitor, but as a leader. Because for her, feeding a child isn't just about food. It's about nurturing the future—one little finger at a time.
