Around 20 trains faced cancellations, while eight were rerouted due to an indefinite rail blockade initiated by Kurmi community leaders at various stations in Jharkhand, starting on Wednesday.
However, the protest came to a conclusion at 6.30 pm on Wednesday following discussions between Kurmi leaders and representatives from the Central government and the Jharkhand state government.
Sheetal Ohdar, the Central President of the Totemic Kurmi Vikash Morcha, announced, "We have chosen to terminate the protest after engaging in discussions with the Central government and the Jharkhand government. The Union Home Secretary has invited us for a meeting on October 2, and the Jharkhand Home Secretary has assured us of a meeting on October 5 to address our demands."
According to railway sources, the blockades led to disruptions in rail traffic along the Howrah-Mumbai and Ranchi-Patna sections.
In total, 20 trains within the South Eastern Railway zone were cancelled, including notable services such as the Howrah-Mumbai Mail, Bilaspur-Tatanagar Express, Howrah-Ahmedabad Express, and the Howrah-Hatia Kriya Yoga Express.
Vande Bharat Odisha Trial:
Bhubaneswar: The trial run of the Vande Bharat Express, connecting the sacred city of Bhubaneswar with the industrial hub of Rourkela, commenced on Wednesday.
The train set off from Puri railway station at 5 am and arrived at Rourkela station at 12.45 pm.
For the return journey, the train is scheduled to depart from Rourkela at 2.10 pm and reach its destination at 9.40 pm. The train will operate six days a week, excluding Saturdays.
