Monsoon Update- Heavy Rainfall In Multiple Parts Of India; IMD Issues Alert

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall for several regions in India on Tuesday, July 30. This prediction includes states such as Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Karnataka, and Gujarat, signaling a period of intense weather activity.

Delhi's Weather Update

The national capital, Delhi, is experiencing significant monsoon effects, with many areas facing waterlogging and heavy traffic disruptions due to continuous rainfall. According to the IMD, Delhi can expect a cloudy sky with moderate rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday. The temperature in the city is predicted to have a maximum of 38 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 29 degrees Celsius.

IMD Alerts: Red, Yellow, and Orange

  • Odisha Yellow alert

The IMD has issued various alerts for different regions based on the expected intensity of rainfall:

  1. Yellow Warning: Five districts in Odisha (Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur) are likely to experience heavy rainfall.

  2. Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Prediction: On Wednesday, July 31, districts such as Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Khurda, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Deogarh, and Sundargarh are expected to receive significant rainfall. Many other parts of the state will witness light to moderate rainfall.

  • Uttarakhand and Gujarat Orange alert

An orange alert has been raised for Uttarakhand and Gujarat due to expected heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has been issued for several other states including Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and others.

  • Other States Yellow alert

A yellow alert has been issued for several states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and others. Additionally, isolated regions in Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Sikkim are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

Five-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

The IMD's forecast for the upcoming five days highlights several significant weather patterns:

  • Cyclonic Circulation and East-West Shear Zone

A cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and its adjoining region is expected to move westward and gradually weaken. Additionally, an east-west shear zone is running along around 21° N, influencing weather patterns.

  • Extremely Heavy Rainfall Predictions

  1. Kerala-Mahe: Isolated places are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall on July 30.

  2. Karnataka: Coastal and South Interior Karnataka may receive very heavy rainfall on July 30.

  3. Saurashtra and Kerala-Mahe: Very heavy rainfall is predicted for July 31.

  4. Konkan-Goa: August 1 will see very heavy rainfall.

  5. East Madhya Pradesh: From July 31 to August 1, the region is likely to be drenched.

  6. Ghat Areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh: August 1-2 will witness very heavy rainfall.

  7. West Madhya Pradesh: Significant rainfall is expected on August 2.

  • Northeast and Other Regions

  1. Northeast India: Moisture-laden southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal are predicted to bring very heavy rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from July 30 to August 1, Arunachal Pradesh on August 1-2, and Odisha on July 31 and August 1.

  2. Uttarakhand: Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected from July 30 to August 1.

  3. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad: July 31 and August 1 will see significant rainfall.

  4. Haryana-Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan: Rainfall is expected on July 31.

The IMD has noted that temperatures will be cooler than the seasonal average over the Northwestern parts of India for the next several days. However, temperatures reaching 40°C are likely in some pockets of West Rajasthan through Tuesday.
