On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, executing coordinated precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. According to an official government statement, the strikes were aimed exclusively at terror facilities, and “no Pakistani military installations were targeted.” Investigating agencies confirmed that the camps hit were linked to proscribed organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen, all of which have a long history of involvement in cross-border terrorism.
Ministry of Defence statement
The Ministry of Defence, in a statement shared on X , said, “Focused strikes were carried out on nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting the roots of cross-border terror planning.” The nine targeted locations included Bahawalpur, Muridke, Tehra Kalan, Sialkot, Bhimber, Kotli, Samahni, Muzaffarabad, and Nikial. These areas are known to host training grounds, logistics hubs, and operational hideouts used by various terror outfits.
Pakistan Shells areas along LoC
In a retaliatory move, the Pakistani Army initiated heavy mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), targeting civilian populations in the forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The shelling began shortly after news of the Indian strikes became public and intensified over the course of the day. Areas worst affected included Krishna Ghati, Shahpur, and Mankote in the Poonch district, along with Laam, Manjakote, and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri. Several homes suffered structural damage, and panic spread among residents, many of whom were forced to flee or take shelter in underground bunkers. Local authorities placed all border villages on high alert and mobilised emergency services to respond swiftly to any casualties or damage. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to monitor developments along the border.
