Satya Pal Malik, a prominent political figure and former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has passed away at the age of 79. The seasoned leader breathed his last at Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after battling prolonged kidney-related complications.

The news of his passing was confirmed by his personal secretary, KS Rana. According to hospital officials, Malik succumbed to his illness at 1:10 PM. The former governor had been under constant medical care in recent weeks due to deteriorating kidney health.

Just weeks before his passing, on June 8, Malik had taken to social media to share an update on his health. In a candid post, he revealed that his condition was "serious" and disclosed that he had been hospitalised for over a month while undergoing treatment. A day prior, he had informed his followers via X (formerly Twitter) about his ongoing struggle with kidney-related ailments.

A Life Steeped in Public Service and Politics

Hailing from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, Satya Pal Malik was a respected Jat leader and a veteran of Indian politics. His journey in public life began during his college years when he emerged as a student leader. In 1974, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Chaudhary Charan Singh's Bharatiya Kranti Dal, marking the beginning of a long and eventful political career.

Malik's political affiliations spanned across several major parties over the decades. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and later represented Aligarh as a Lok Sabha MP from the Janata Dal. Throughout his career, he also held associations with the Indian National Congress, Lok Dal, and the Samajwadi Party, reflecting his dynamic presence in India's evolving political landscape.
