UPSC has announced major reforms to the Civil Services Examination, aiming to curb repeated attempts by serving officers.

Officers selected in CSE 2026 will get only one chance to improve rank in CSE 2027, after which resignation will be mandatory.

New rules also bar existing IPS officers from re-entering IPS and introduce face authentication at exam centres.

With over 10 lakh aspirants for limited seats, UPSC says the changes ensure fairness, discipline, and commitment to service.
