Famous Bollywood actor Nana Patekar has passed away at the age of 75 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Goa on Thursday morning. His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the news.
What is known about the passing of Nana Patekar
Reports indicate that Patekar experienced chest pain at his home in Goa and a medical team was sent to his flat. He was found unconscious, given a heart massage at the scene, and taken to a private hospital in Dona Paula, where he was pronounced dead at 5:20 AM.
A doctor from Manipal Hospital told journalists that CPR was performed for 45 minutes without any response. The doctor mentioned that a medico-legal case has been opened and a post-mortem will be conducted. In such cases, this is standard procedure, and the exact cause of death will only be determined after the examination. Until then, we are sharing only what has been reported by the officials and the family.
State funeral and final rites
The Maharashtra government has decided to arrange a state funeral for Patekar in honor of his contributions to Marathi theatre and to Marathi and Hindi cinema. His body is being transported to Pune, where the funeral is expected to take place at his farmhouse. The time is 4 PM. We will confirm this as official details become available.
His last public appearance
Patekar was last seen in public at an event in Dona Paula on 4 October, where he participated in the installation ceremony of Samraat Club International, according to PTI. A video of his speech at that event is now being shared widely in the media.
A career lasting more than four decades
Patekar first appeared on screen with Gaman in 1978 and later became one of the most respected actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema. His famous roles include Krantiveer, Parinda, Prahaar, Ab Tak Chhappan, Raajneeti and Welcome. In last few years, he appeared in Housefull 5, Vanvaas and Subedaar, and his most recent film was Vishal Bhardwaj's O' Romeo in February 2026. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said a few actors had the intensity and presence of Patekar and that he was also admired for speaking his mind. President Droupadi Murmu praised his performances and his dedication to social work, calling his death a huge loss to Indian cinema.
From the film industry, Akshay Kumar, who worked with him in Welcome and Housefull 5, said he felt lucky to have been on those sets and would miss him more than words can express. Jr NTR talked about the honesty in his performances, and Paresh Rawal called him " honest and intense." Prakash Raj, Ram Gopal Varma, Ravi Kishan, Ananth Mahadevan and Kangana Ranaut also paid their respects. Kangana Ranaut said the news was especially surprising because he had looked very fit and healthy.
