A devastating building collapse occurred in Northeast Delhi's New Seemapuri area on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in at least one fatality—a child—and eight people rescued so far. The front portion of the multi-storey residential structure, situated behind a local fish market, completely caved in at approximately 3:30 PM. The Delhi Fire Service swiftly mobilised four fire tenders to the site to spearhead the emergency response.
While several injured residents have been successfully admitted to nearby medical facilities, including Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, disaster management units and local volunteers are frantically sifting through the rubble as some individuals—including a four-month pregnant woman- remain trapped. Locals have claimed that the building developed severe cracks following earthquake tremors from Uttarakhand the previous night, though the official cause is still under investigation.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an urgent advisory urging the public to avoid the Seemapuri Gol Chakkar and DLF Bhopura routes to ensure unobstructed access for emergency vehicles.
