Over 700 trees along Mumbai’s Eastern Express Highway, between Vikhroli and Thane, are set to be cut or transplanted for an infrastructure project.

The move, approved by civic authorities, is currently under review by the National Green Tribunal.

While officials promise transplantation, environmentalists question whether decades-old trees can truly be replaced.

The debate once again puts development and environmental responsibility at odds.
