You throw waste into a dustbin—but where does it actually end up?

Ideally, wet waste should be converted into compost or biogas, while dry waste like paper and plastic should be recycled or processed. Only the remaining waste should reach a landfill.

NITI Aayog’s long term vision targets 85% waste processing and 15% disposal. Yet, according to The Times of India, BMC vehicles in Bhopal were reportedly seen dumping waste across nearly 25 acres of Smart City land.

And Bhopal isn’t alone. Several Indian cities continue to struggle with overflowing dump sites and legacy waste.

So the question is simple: If waste is meant to be processed, why is Smart City land turning into a dumping ground? 🤔
