A District Reserve Guard (DRG) head constable was killed during an encounter with Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 1 pm in the dense forest area on the border of Sonpur and Kohkameta police station limits in Abujhmad, a senior police official confirmed.
Joint Operation Launched by Security Forces
The operation was part of a joint anti-Naxal effort conducted by personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Border Security Force (BSF). The operation had been initiated on Tuesday, with security forces combing the region to counter Naxal activities.
Prolonged Gunfight with Naxalites
The exchange of fire between the security forces and the Naxalites was intermittent and lasted until late in the evening. During the encounter, Birendra Kumar Sori, a 36-year-old head constable of the DRG, lost his life in the line of duty, the official stated.

A Brave Officer's Legacy
Sori had joined the Narayanpur district police as a constable in 2010 and was promoted to head constable in 2018, recognising his courageous contributions to anti-Naxal operations.
Body Recovery and Search Operation Ongoing
Efforts are currently underway to transport Sori's body out of the forest. Meanwhile, a search operation is continuing in the region to ensure the area is cleared of threats.
