Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Link Sparks Traffic Nightmare Fears at Sarai Kale Khan Interchange

Will the New Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Link Turn Sarai Kale Khan Into a Traffic Nightmare?

A major urban planning bottleneck could soon spell daily misery for millions of Delhi commuters. With the highly anticipated Delhi-Mumbai Expressway preparing to connect at the Sarai Kale Khan junction, experts and traffic officials are raising serious concerns over a looming congestion crisis.

Key Highlights of the Traffic Issue:

  • The 5-to-3 Lane Bottleneck: The upcoming expressway will funnel high-speed traffic from five lanes directly into a three-lane carriageway on the Ring Road, forcing thousands of vehicles to merge at a single choke point.

  • Existing Overload: Sarai Kale Khan is already one of the capital's busiest convergence points, managing heavy traffic from the DND Flyway, Barapullah elevated road, and Ring Road. Currently, evening peak-hour queues routinely stretch up to 2 kilometers on the Ring Road.

  • Intervention and Proposed Fixes: Anticipating the chaos, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to identify long-term engineering solutions. Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police has proposed several immediate measures, including a road safety audit, removal of roadside encroachments, and an urgent request to the Public Works Department (PWD) to widen the critical three-lane stretch to four lanes.

Will these preventive interventions be enough, or is Sarai Kale Khan destined to become Delhi’s biggest traffic hotspot? Share your thoughts below, and stay tuned to VYGR News for verified local updates.
