Gulmarg Gondola Crisis: 300 Tourists Rescued After 7-Hour Mid-Air Ordeal

A routine trip turned into a terrifying ordeal for over 300 tourists in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, when the famous Gondola cable car service abruptly stalled due to a technical snag.

With 65 cabins left dangling mid-air, some nearly 500 feet above the ground, a massive, multi-agency rescue operation was launched.

In a challenging seven-hour mission, teams from the Indian Army (Chinar Corps), Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF, and NDRF worked together under difficult weather conditions to bring every passenger to safety.

While the rescue was successful and no casualties were reported, the J&K government has ordered a thorough inquiry into the malfunction to ensure accountability.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of rigorous safety standards and efficient emergency response protocols in adventure tourism.

We salute the bravery and skill of the rescue teams who saved these lives. 🫡
