Varanasi: Massive Fire Near Godaulia Chowk Engulfs Shops and Guest Houses 🔥🚨

A massive fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in two four-storey buildings near Varanasi’s busy Godaulia intersection, gutting multiple businesses and triggering panic in the area.

The blaze reportedly started around 2 PM at GH Hardware, a ground-floor shop selling brooms and paint. An external electrical wire is suspected to have triggered the fire, which spread rapidly due to the presence of highly flammable materials.

The flames engulfed the adjoining Satnam Singh Brothers Jewellers and two guest houses on the upper floors. Shop owners reportedly managed to evacuate five to six guests and their staff.

Meanwhile, hardware shop owner Sanjay Prajapati became trapped on the rooftop. Firefighters wearing oxygen cylinders and using ladders rescued him before he was rushed to Kabir Chaura Divisional Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Thick black smoke was visible from several kilometres away, including from across the Ganga. Police barricaded the area while five fire engines worked to bring the blaze under control in approximately 90 minutes.

Local business owners estimated that losses could run into crores and alleged that the fire brigade arrived around 45 minutes after the incident began.
