UP: Over ₹5 Crore in Cash Recovered From Three Underground Drums in Prayagraj
A major police raid in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district has led to the recovery of more than ₹5 crore in cash allegedly hidden inside three underground drums.
Acting on a tip-off about stolen money, police raided the ancestral house of Rakesh Yadav in Baraipur Ramnagar village. During a four-and-a-half-hour search, officers reportedly cut the village's electricity supply and discovered three blue drums packed with bundles of ₹500 notes.
Villagers claim Yadav returned from Pune during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently acquired substantial wealth, purchasing 22 bighas of land and constructing a lavish house.
Police have detained four people, including Yadav’s brother, while an Income Tax Department team has been called in to count the seized cash and investigate its source.
