Karnataka’s upcoming Mysuru Divisional Mega Job Fair, scheduled to take place on October 17 at Maharaja’s College Grounds, has already generated massive enthusiasm among job seekers. According to Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood, as many as 24,000 candidates have registered to participate in the much-awaited employment event.
The large-scale job fair, being organized under the aegis of the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC), aims to connect thousands of job seekers with leading employers from diverse industries. With 221 companies confirming participation and nearly 45,000 vacancies on offer, the fair is expected to be one of the biggest employment drives in the state this year.
Thousands of Opportunities, One Platform
Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Tuesday, Dr. Patil urged young aspirants to take full advantage of this golden opportunity.
“We appeal to all job seekers to participate actively. Those who haven’t registered online can still enroll at the venue on the day of the fair,”
said Dr. Patil.
He added that interested candidates can also register through the official website — https://udyogamela.ksdckarnataka.com.
The minister emphasized that the job fair is designed to cater to a wide range of qualifications and skill levels. From candidates with minimal academic backgrounds to highly qualified professionals, opportunities will be available across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, information technology, retail, healthcare, education, and more.
Skill Training for Unplaced Candidates
A notable feature of this mega employment initiative is its inclusive approach toward skill enhancement. Dr. Patil explained that details of candidates who do not receive job offers during the fair will be collected and analyzed.
“Those who remain unplaced will not be left behind,” he assured.
“The government will offer them skill development training to boost their employability and help them find suitable opportunities in the future.”
This commitment reflects the government’s larger mission of linking skill development with livelihood creation, ensuring that every participant benefits — either through direct employment or skill upgradation.
Yuvanidhi Scheme: Clarifying Misconceptions
Dr. Patil also used the occasion to clarify misconceptions surrounding the Yuvanidhi and Yuvanidhi Plus schemes — two major state initiatives focused on supporting unemployed youth in Karnataka.
He noted that some beneficiaries of the Yuvanidhi unemployment allowance mistakenly believe that joining a skill training program would make them ineligible for financial assistance.
“That is incorrect,” he clarified.
“Under the Yuvanidhi Plus scheme, the allowance continues for two years or until the candidate finds employment — whichever is earlier. Enrolling in skill training does not affect their eligibility.”
The minister further highlighted that Yuvanidhi Plus focuses on training candidates in emerging technologies, ensuring that Karnataka’s youth stay competitive in the rapidly evolving job market.
Impressive Placement Track Record
The government’s employment and skill development initiatives have already produced encouraging results. Dr. Patil revealed that six job fairs conducted earlier at taluk and district levels across the state helped 12,966 candidates secure employment. Additionally, three campus job fairs organized in collaboration with educational institutions placed another 1,177 students in various roles.
“These numbers reflect the impact of our employment drives,” Dr. Patil said.
“We are connecting employers and job seekers directly while also helping youth understand industry requirements and evolving skill demands.”
Strong Response from Yuvanidhi Beneficiaries
The Yuvanidhi scheme, which provides unemployment assistance and skill training to eligible youth, has attracted significant participation. So far, over 3 lakh young people across Karnataka have registered under the scheme — including 43,500 beneficiaries from the Mysuru division alone.
Out of these, 3,158 Yuvanidhi beneficiaries have already registered to attend the upcoming Mega Job Fair. However, Dr. Patil expressed concern that despite over 2 lakh registered beneficiaries statewide, only 1,500 youths have taken up skill training so far.
“We appeal to all Yuvanidhi beneficiaries to take up skill training and make the best use of these government programs,”
the minister urged.
“Skill enhancement is the key to sustainable employment and better career prospects.”
Employers to Focus on Skills, Not Just Degrees
Highlighting the fair’s practical approach, Dr. Patil emphasized that employers will prioritize skills and aptitude over mere educational qualifications.
“Candidates will be selected based on their practical skills,” he said.
“For those who do not receive offers immediately, we will identify the skill gaps and provide targeted training so they can find jobs easily in the near future.”
This employer-driven model, according to officials, will create a continuous loop of learning and employment — where feedback from employers directly shapes future training modules under KSDC’s programs.
Mega Skill Training Institute Coming Up in Varuna
In another major announcement, Dr. Patil revealed plans to establish a Mega Skill Training Institute in Varuna, the home constituency of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The institute will focus on equipping youth with cutting-edge skills in high-demand areas such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.
“The upcoming training center in Varuna will be a milestone in Karnataka’s skill development journey,”
Dr. Patil stated.
“It will serve as a hub for both foundational and advanced courses, preparing youth for the industries of tomorrow.”
The institute is expected to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between education and employment, particularly for students in semi-urban and rural areas.
