Chennai: Tamil Nadu's political landscape witnessed dramatic developments on Tuesday after Leader of the Opposition and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained by police from his Chennai residence in connection with alleged objectionable remarks involving actor Trisha Krishnan. The detention, which followed a complaint filed by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has intensified an already volatile political confrontation between the ruling TVK government and the opposition DMK.

The police action came less than 24 hours after Udhayanidhi addressed a protest in Thanjavur over the Cauvery water dispute, where his speech allegedly included remarks deemed vulgar and derogatory towards actor Trisha. Police Arrive at Chennai Residence

Police personnel reached Udhayanidhi Stalin's residence in Chennai's Neelankarai early Tuesday morning to execute the detention. Videos from the scene showed officers waiting outside the residence while discussions took place with family members and legal representatives.

Visuals that later surfaced also showed filmmaker Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, Stalin's wife, requesting police officers to wait as legal consultations were underway before they proceeded with the detention. Despite the tense atmosphere outside his residence, Udhayanidhi appeared calm while being escorted by police officers.

'This Is Fake News': Udhayanidhi Rejects Allegations

Before being taken away, Udhayanidhi Stalin dismissed the allegations against him and accused political opponents of spreading misinformation.

He maintained that "fake news" was being propagated regarding his speech and insisted that he would challenge the case through legal means.
