The last full moon of the winter season is known as the ‘Worm Moon’. The full moon shines bright and is visible for two nights or more in the dark night skies. This years ‘Worm Moon’ lit up the skies on March 6 and March 7.
The last full moon of the winter gets its name ‘Worm Moon’ as its appearance coincides with earthworms coming out into the ground’s surface as the ice begins to thaw. The ‘Worm Moon’ marks the onset of spring in the western countries and summer in India.
Many religions around the world follow the Lunar calendar. The ‘Worm Moon’ marks festivals all around the world. Indians celebrates Holi, Jews celebrate Purim and Buddhists celebrate Māgha Pūjā in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia.
