In the 57th match of IPL 2025, which CSK won by 2 wickets against the mighty KKR, the BCCI honoured the Indian Armed Forces ahead of the match. The National Anthem of India was played at the Eden Gardens, followed by a touching display on the side screen that read “Proud of Indian Armed Forces.”
Tribute to the Indian Armed Forces for Operation Sindoor
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces for their successful Operation Sindoor. This operation was a well-planned strategic counter-terrorism mission targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror attack. The crowd singing ‘Vande Mataram’ during the match showed how united we are and that no one can ever break this nation's spirit.
Brevis fires CSK to victory
Dewald Brevis delivered a game-changing performance for CSK at Eden Gardens. Chasing a target of 180 in 20 overs after KKR won the toss and elected to bat first, CSK struggled to capitalize the power play as they lost 5 wickets in the powerplay and were 60- 5 when Brevis walked in to bat. Brevis launched a counterattack on KKR bowlers and scored a match-winning knock of 52 runs in just 25 balls. Brevis smashed Vaibhav Arora for 30 runs in an over, which featured three sixes and three fours. His explosive innings shifted the momentum towards CSK. Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni provided the finishing touches to the game and took CSK to just their third win of this season.
What's next for KKR and CSK?
Despite this win, CSK will remain out of the playoff contention, while this loss has significantly impacted KKR’s chances of reaching the playoffs. KKR did everything right while batting, as some attacking knocks from Captain Rahane and Andre Russell took the hosts to a respectable and good total of 179 on a difficult Eden Gardens pitch, but the bowlers were just unable to create chances after the powerplay, which led to CSK getting their first win after four matches. KKR will now be looking to win their remaining matches so that they can have an outside chance of reaching the playoffs this season.
