In the 60th match of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans hammered Delhi Capitals by 10 wickets at the Arun Jaitely stadium. Gujarat chased down the 200-run target in only 19 overs and without the loss of any wickets. Gill and Sai’s partnership of 205 runs ensured playoffs qualification for the consistent Titans, who have qualified for the playoffs for the third time in their four IPL seasons. Delhi scored 199-2 in their 20 overs, and Gujarat’s opening duo chased it down in just 19 overs. Gujarat moves to the first position in the points table whereas Delhi is still at fifth position, Delhi needs to win their remaining two matches to qualify for the playoffs whereas Gujarat’s win has give us three teams who will go to the next round, the three teams are Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings. It will be interesting to see who will join them as the 4th team. There is a tight competition between MI, DC, and an outside chance for LSG is also there.
GT openers score again
Gujarat Titans have the most in-form and strongest top order in the IPL, and their openers have once again proved that you don’t always need to play the aggressive type of cricket to succeed in T20s, as old-school batting can also win you matches and tournaments. Gill played a massive innings of 93 off just 53 balls. He smashed 7 sixes in the innings and hit 4 fours during his innings. It was Sai Sudharshan who stole the show as he smashed an amazing 108 runs off just 61 balls on the pitch, which did provide the spin bowlers with some turn. The Delhi bowlers were smashed all over the park by the two young Indians, and the Delhi bowlers were not able to get even a single wicket in the innings. This is the first time that a team has chased down 200 runs without losing a single wicket. Sai also got the orange cap back from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who took it from Sai during the day match. Sai has now scored 617 runs in the ongoing IPL season, and he would be looking to add more runs to his tally and win the Gujarat Titans their second IPL Trophy.
Klaasy Rahul’s century goes in vain
KL Rahul once again was the main man for the Delhi Capitals in a pressure game as he smashed a brilliant 112 runs off just 65 balls in the first innings, whilst opening for the second time in this IPL season. He took Delhi to a good total of 199 in 20 overs, but all his hard work went in vain due to a brilliant run chase by Sai and Gill. KL Rahul became the first player to score centuries for three different IPL teams. he had previously scored centuries for his former teams, LSG and PBKS. Rahul would have been happier about his century if his team had managed to win this game, but now DC is in a do-or-die situation from here on.
What's next for GT and DC?
Gujarat Titans have once again qualified for the playoffs and will now be aiming for a top-two finish by winning their remaining two matches against LSG and CSK. Gujarat Titans' middle order is still not tested by any team as no team has been able to get out all three Gill, Sai, and Buttler early in the innings, as one of them is always there till the last for the Titans. Delhi Capitals now need to win both of their remaining two matches to qualify for the playoffs. Their last two matches are against MI and PBKS, both teams have been in great form, and it will be really difficult for DC to beat them and qualify. All the DC players need to step up in this crucial time to ensure a qualification spot for the playoffs.
