Paris Saint-Germain are through to their second Champions League Final. A 2-1 victory over Arsenal clinches a 3-1 aggregate despite a difficult night in Paris against Arsenal, who showed a spirited performance, but PSG were just a bit better than them in both legs.
Match analysis
PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma once again pulled a magnificent performance in the Champions League and made some very good saves before and after Ruiz doubled his side’s lead from the first leg. The second half was full of intense moments, with Vitinha’s penalty being saved by Raya, to Hakimi scoring just minutes after the penalty. Hakimi’s goal meant that the Arsenal men had a mountain to climb in front of them, and Arsenal’s star boy tried to get his team back by scoring a goal in the 76th minute, then missed an open goal when he could’ve put PSG under pressure. That miss ultimately left the visitors well short of a win in Paris.
Inter vs PSG for European Glory
PSG will now be facing the highly spirited Inter, who reached the final after knocking out the Spanish Giants Barcelona by 7-6 on aggregate. PSG who have been on a dream European run this season, will be heading to Munich with a lot of confidence after this performance. PSG are now only 90 minutes away from becoming the European Champions for the first time. Luis Enrique has brought a mentality shift to the team, and after the match, PSG captain praised his coach and said
“The coach took it one step at a time to improve this team. When he arrived, he saw there was a lot to change, especially in terms of mentality,” the Brazilian said.
“That doesn’t happen overnight. He worked gradually. There were matches that unlocked confidence for us — Manchester City, Liverpool... those games confirmed our work.
“Last season, we sometimes played well and created chances but couldn’t finish them. This year’s results show we’re on the right path.”
Another trophyless season for the Gunners
Arsenal 2024-25 season has been their fifth consecutive trophyless campaign. Mikel Arteta would have to make some more changes in the upcoming window so that Arsenal can taste some silverware next season. After their defeat against PSG in the Champions League, Arteta said
This squad, two years ago, nobody believed that we could even qualify for the Champions League, not even think that we could finish second or compete in the league. Or have the amount of points that we had that in any other year you are a champion. Or have the run and the results and the performances that we had in the Champions League. But the reality at the end is that you need something to lose, and that trophy with all the work that we do, and disappointment is that it's not going to happen.
Arsenal will be hoping to end their Premier League season on a high by winning their remaining matches and ensuring their place in the next Champions League.
