Mumbai has unveiled its own musical road, inspired by similar innovations in Japan and the United States.

As vehicles drive over a specially designed 500-metre stretch on the Coastal Road (at the right speed, typically 70–80 kmph), the tune of the iconic "Jai Ho" (from Slumdog Millionaire) plays through the vibrations!

A musical road works by carving precise grooves (or rumble strips) into the pavement.

When tires roll over them at the correct constant speed, the resulting vibrations turn into audible sound waves, creating a recognizable melody.

Different groove spacing and patterns produce different tunes.
