A horrifying incident rocked Gurgaon on Sunday evening when a young couple, both software engineers, was found dead inside their rented apartment at The Millennia in Sector 37. Police suspect that Ajay Kumar, the husband, may have strangled his wife, Sweety Sharma, before ending his own life.

The Tragic Discovery

The bodies were found after Ajay’s relatives, alarmed by a disturbing video message he had shared with his friends, rushed to the flat. Unable to reach the couple over phone calls and finding the door locked from inside, they sought police assistance. The main door was eventually broken open, only to reveal the lifeless bodies of Ajay and Sweety lying in the same room.

According to the initial probe, Ajay allegedly throttled Sweety with a piece of cloth before taking the extreme step himself. A police official explained, “In one part of the video that Ajay Kumar shared with his friends, he can be heard saying that he killed Sweety. He then reveals his plans to end his life too.”

A Marriage Marked by Struggles

Ajay Kumar, originally from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, worked with an IT firm in Cyber City, while his wife, Sweety Sharma, hailed from West Bengal. The two had met during their careers, and after years of courtship, tied the knot in 2023.

Initially, their marriage seemed filled with hope and promise. However, cracks began to appear early on. Family members revealed that frequent quarrels strained their relationship, to the point that they decided to live apart for a year. Eventually, the couple reunited, determined to give their marriage another chance.

But despite their efforts, tensions continued. Sweety’s mother confirmed this, saying, “Even after moving back in together, the quarrels continued. The fights never really stopped, even though they started working in different companies after reuniting.”

The Disturbing Video Message

On Sunday, Ajay reportedly sent a video message to a group of friends, announcing his decision to end his life. Startled by the revelation, his friends immediately alerted his family members in Uttar Pradesh, who then reached out to relatives in Delhi.

Ajay’s cousin, Deepak Gupta, recounted details from the clip. He said, “The video message Ajay shared spoke about his hopes for a happy family and his plans for children. But in the same breath, he also mentioned his decision to kill himself. By the time we got the call and rushed to the flat with police, it was too late.”

Sweety’s Mother: “I Kept Calling Her, Almost Thirty Times”

For Sweety’s family, the tragedy came with devastating shock. Her mother recalled her last conversation with her daughter earlier that same afternoon. Sweety had mentioned that Ajay was fixing a bookshelf in their apartment. She advised her daughter to ask the landlord before drilling into the wall.

“The call ended with Sweety promising to dial me back. But she never called. I kept trying—almost thirty times. Her phone was switched off. I even tried Ajay’s number, but he did not answer. That’s when I sensed something was wrong,” she said, her voice heavy with grief.

She added that their relationship troubles were no secret to the family. “Ajay and Sweety worked at the same company before marriage, but their ties soured very early on. We had to bring our daughter back home when things turned ugly. After a year apart, they decided to try again. But the quarrels continued even after they shifted jobs. I am certain Ajay killed my daughter,” she alleged.

Family Backgrounds

Ajay came from a modest family in Prayagraj, where his father works as an electrician. Despite financial challenges, his father supported Ajay’s education and was proud of his accomplishments.

Deepak Gupta, his maternal cousin based in Delhi, described him as an introvert and a studious man. “Ajay’s father worked tirelessly for his education and was proud of his achievements. No one could have imagined something like this,” Deepak shared.

Sweety, on the other hand, belonged to a family in West Bengal, where her father runs a furniture business. Both families are now struggling to come to terms with the shocking loss.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the discovery, the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The police have recorded statements from both families and are awaiting a formal complaint from Sweety’s side before proceeding further.

A senior police officer confirmed, “We are probing the case from all angles. Statements have been taken from the relatives of both Ajay and Sweety. Once the autopsy report comes in and a complaint is formally registered, we will take the necessary legal action.”

As of late Monday evening, however, no FIR had been lodged.
