Cyclone Murasu Hits Andhra Pradesh Coast with 120 kmph Winds; Thousands Evacuated
Severe Cyclone Murasu made landfall near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district early Tuesday, bringing gale-force winds of up to 120 kmph and heavy rainfall across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Authorities evacuated thousands of residents from vulnerable areas across Bapatla, Krishna and Prakasam districts amid warnings of a 1.5 to 2-metre storm surge. The cyclone also disrupted air, rail and road transport, with multiple flight cancellations reported in Chennai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati.
The IMD expects the system to weaken into a deep depression by midnight and dissipate by November 5. Authorities remain on alert as the region deals with the impact of the storm.
