Manikarnika Ghat, one of Hinduism’s most sacred sites, is at the centre of a growing controversy.
Visuals from Varanasi show heavy machinery at the ghat during a redevelopment project, triggering concerns from locals and priests about damage to ancient idols and sacred spaces.
Authorities deny any demolition, stating that all artefacts are being preserved and will be restored.
But the question remains: can development come at the cost of heritage and faith?
