Cyclone Murasu Aftermath: 70 Barrage Gates Opened as Krishna River Sees Massive Surge
Heavy rainfall following Cyclone Murasu has triggered a significant rise in the Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh. On Wednesday morning, authorities opened 70 gates at Prakasam Barrage, releasing around 71,000 cusecs of surplus water downstream.
The NTR district administration, led by Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha, has intensified flood monitoring by deploying six drones to survey vulnerable water bodies, including Budameru, Pothulavagu and Munneru.
Although water levels receded slightly by afternoon, heavy rainfall continued across the region, with Tiruvuru recording 155.8 mm. Rehabilitation centres remain operational, while officials are focusing on sanitation and safe drinking water to prevent waterborne diseases.
