#TribesOfIndia (Ep 2) : Have you ever heard of a community that turned their own bodies into temples?
Meet the Ramnami Samaj of Chhattisgarh.
In the 1890s, when they were denied entry into temples due to their caste, they chose a unique, peaceful form of defiance: they tattooed "Ram" across their faces and bodies (even on eyelids).
For the Ramnami, God is not confined to stone idols; they believe the divine resides in nature and every human being. They worship Nirgun (formless) Ram.
The community follows a strictly vegetarian, alcohol-free, tobacco-free lifestyle and operates without priests.
While modernization is changing some traditions among the youth, their powerful message of equality, self-respect, and peaceful devotion remains unmatched.
