A dramatic 40 kilometre chase in Tamil Nadu saw a police head constable cling to the roof of a speeding car carrying suspected gutkha smugglers.
The incident began near Coimbatore, when police stopped the vehicle for a routine check. The three occupants allegedly pushed the officers away, locked the doors and sped off.
In a daring move, Head Constable Velmurugan jumped onto the car’s roof and held on as the suspects drove through busy roads and even crossed a toll plaza.
Police teams eventually intercepted the vehicle in Tiruppur, arresting all three accused.
Nearly 300 kilograms of banned tobacco products, allegedly being transported from Bengaluru, were also seized.
The dramatic chase was captured by motorists and quickly went viral.
