🌪️ Taiwan: Typhoon Champi Leaves 1 Dead, 500+ Injured
Typhoon Champi has battered northeastern Taiwan, leaving one person dead, more than 500 injured and over 5,000 residents displaced. Yilan County recorded wind speeds of up to 185 km/h and more than 650 mm of rainfall.
The storm has weakened after briefly reaching super typhoon strength, but its impact continues. Hundreds of flights have been disrupted, while nearly 56,000 households are awaiting power restoration.
As Champi moves towards Japan’s Okinawa islands and China’s eastern coast, authorities are preparing for heavy rainfall and flooding risks. Reports also indicate evacuation measures in parts of China, including Shanghai.
