India's GalaxEye to launch our largest Private Commercial Satellite Drishti

In a major leap for India’s space technology, GalaxEye Space, a fast-growing space start-up based in Bengaluru, has announced the upcoming launch of ‘Drishti’, the nation’s largest private commercial satellite to date. The mission underscores India’s growing strength in commercial satellite imagingspace innovation, and private space entrepreneurship.

‘Drishti’ is designed to provide high-resolution satellite images and multisensor data for industries such as defence, agriculture, urban planning, and environmental monitoring. The satellite is expected to be launched later this year, marking a proud moment for India’s private space sector, which has gained strong momentum since the government opened the space industry to private players.

A New Era for India’s Space Start-ups

Founded by alumni from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, GalaxEye Space has been steadily emerging as a key player in India’s space-tech ecosystem. The company’s goal is to create the world’s first satellite constellation capable of multi-sensor imaging—a system that combines radar and optical images to deliver more accurate insights even through clouds or darkness.

With ‘Drishti’, GalaxEye takes a giant step toward that vision. The satellite, weighing several hundred kilograms, will carry advanced imaging instruments capable of capturing both synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and electro-optical data. This means that it can monitor land, water, and infrastructure with remarkable clarity—day or night, rain or shine.

Powerful Capabilities, Practical Applications

‘Drishti’ is expected to benefit multiple sectors:

  • Agriculture: Farmers and agri-tech companies can use its images to monitor crop health, water distribution, and soil patterns.

  • Disaster Management: Real-time high-resolution images will help authorities respond faster to floods, landslides, and cyclones.

  • Urban Development: Town planners and engineers can map city growth more effectively.

  • Defence and Security: The satellite will enhance surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, supporting national security objectives.

The data gathered from ‘Drishti’ will be made available to commercial and government entities worldwide, putting India firmly on the global map of next-generation satellite imaging providers.

Collaboration and Innovation Driving the Mission

GalaxEye has collaborated with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and several global aerospace partners for technical support, testing, and mission assurance. The satellite will be launched aboard an Indian launch vehicle, further demonstrating the country’s ability to run entire space projects domestically.

The company’s CEO, Suyash Singh, stated that ‘Drishti’ represents “the dawn of a new data-rich future, where insights from space can help people make better decisions on Earth.” This aligns with India’s vision to transform into a global leader in space-based data services.

Strengthening India’s Commercial Space Presence

The launch of ‘Drishti’ comes at a time when India’s private space sector is expanding quickly. With over 200 registered space start-ups and an increasing number of commercial launches, India is positioning itself as an affordable and innovative hub for satellite technology.

Observers believe that missions like ‘Drishti’ will encourage more private companies to invest in space technologyAI-based imaging, and remote sensing analytics, helping India compete with countries such as the United States and Japan in the global commercial satellite market. As launch preparations progress, anticipation is building among scientists, students, and investors alike. The success of ‘Drishti’ will not only strengthen India’s reputation for reliability in space missions but also inspire a new generation of young dreamers to look up – quite literally – to the stars.
