Why the iPhone 18 May Cost More in India, and What You Could Get for the Money

Apple is reportedly splitting its iPhone launches. The standard iPhone 18 may land months after the Pro models, alongside two other phones.

If you were waiting for the standard iPhone 18 this autumn, you may be waiting a bit longer. Apple’s September launch was built around its higher-end phones, and the regular iPhone 18 is now widely tipped to show up in spring 2027, most likely in March or April.

None of this has been confirmed. Apple hasn’t said a word about the date, the price or the specifications, so everything below comes from leaks and analyst estimates, and some of it will turn out to be wrong.

When could it launch?

The word from supply-chain watchers is that the standard iPhone 18 will arrive with two siblings, the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2, sometime between March and April 2027. Production is reportedly set to begin towards the end of November 2026.

If that holds, it marks a real shift. For years Apple has launched its whole core line-up together in September. A split cycle would keep the Pro models in the autumn spotlight and give the cheaper phones a separate moment of their own. It also means the current iPhone 17 stays on sale as Apple’s standard phone for an unusually long stretch.

What could be new

The rumoured upgrades are mostly about speed, memory and efficiency:

  • A20 chip: The phone is expected to use Apple’s next-generation processor, reportedly built on a 2-nanometre process. That is a smaller, more efficient design than the 3nm chip in the current generation, which should help both performance and battery life.
  • More memory: The amount of RAM is the biggest open question. Estimates range from 8GB to 9GB to 12GB. Apple has been raising memory to support its AI features, so a step up is likely, but the exact figure is not settled.
  • Display: Leaks point to a 6.3-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, which would bring the smoother scrolling that was once a Pro-only feature.
  • Cameras: Expect a dual rear camera setup with a 48MP main sensor, an upgraded front camera for selfies and video calls, and a smaller Dynamic Island cutout.
  • Battery: Improved battery life is expected, helped mainly by the more efficient chip. No capacity figures have been confirmed.

What will it cost in India?

This is where the rumours disagree the most. India price estimates range from about Rs 82,000 on the low end to Rs 1.30 lakh on the high end, with several leaks clustering between Rs 90,000 and Rs 1.20 lakh. The wide spread is itself a sign that nobody outside Apple knows.

There are reasons to expect a rise. Memory chips have become more expensive, partly because of demand from AI companies, and the A20 is reportedly costlier to make. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max have already launched in India at Rs 1,64,900 and Rs 1,79,900, which shows how far Apple has pushed its prices. Whether the standard model follows is the real question for buyers.

Should you wait?

If you are on an older phone, the iPhone 17 is the safe option today. If you are happy to wait a few months, the standard iPhone 18 could bring a faster chip, more RAM and a high-refresh display, but possibly at a price above Rs 1 lakh. A sensible approach is to hold off until Apple confirms the details, since rumours this far out often change.

What to watch

Keep an eye out for production reports in late November, any official invitation from Apple in early 2027, and signs of whether the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 launch on the same day. Prices for India are usually confirmed only on launch day.
