A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district on June 14, 2026, when a false rumour of a fire on the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity Express sparked mass panic among passengers.
As the train halted between the Hetampur and Dholpur stations following emergency chain-pulling, several passengers hurriedly disembarked and stepped onto the adjacent railway tracks.
Unaware of the approaching Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express due to a sharp curve in the tracks, four passengers—three women and a four-year-old child—were struck and killed instantly.
Railway authorities, including the Jhansi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), have confirmed that no fire occurred on the train and have initiated a high-level probe into the incident.
The victims have been identified as Afreen (35), her son Asad (4), Shakuntala (60), and Veerma Devi (58).
This devastating event serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of panic and the importance of staying calm in emergency situations.
